NBC adds French accent to laffer pilot

Bertinelli, Leachman get 'Crazy' for CBS

French Stewart is headed back to the NBC universe, landing a regular role on the net’s Phil Hendrie comedy pilot, while Valerie Bertinelli and Cloris Leachman will star opposite Peter MacNicol in CBS’ “Crazy Love.”

Thesps also landing roles in a last-minute flurry of casting announcements include David Hornsby, who will don a new hairdo in UPN’s “The Mullet Bros.”

Former “3rd Rock From the Sun” co-star Stewart is set to play Cy Muller, a nosy neighbor role originally intended as a guest character. He joins Hendrie, Laurie Metcalf and Christian de la Fuente in the NBC Studios-produced half-hour, which is based on one of Hendrie’s many radio characters.

Stewart, who’s repped by UTA and J.C. Robbins, had been developing projects at Fox for the past two seasons. He recently appeared in the feature “Clockstoppers” and the direct-to-video release “Inspector Gadget 2.” Thesp’s other credits include “Dick” and “Love Stinks” and NBC’s short-lived toon laffer “God, the Devil and Bob.”

Over at “Crazy Love,” Bertinelli will play MacNicol’s wife and Leachman will portray his mother in the show, which comes from Touchstone TV and CBS Prods.

That keeps Bertinelli in the CBS fold; she currently stars in the Eye’s retiring series “Touched by an Angel.” Bertinelli, repped by Fusion Management, also starred in CBS’ “One Day at a Time” and “Sydney” and NBC’s “Cafe Americain.” Her long list of telepics include CBS’ “Personally Yours.”

Leachman, who’s repped by Metropolitan, has a recurring role on Fox’s “Malcolm in the Middle” and starred in the Eye’s “The Ellen Show,” “The Mary Tyler Moore Show” and “Phyllis.” Recent features include “Hanging Up.”

As for Hornsby, the actor will star along with Loni Anderson and John O’Hurley in “The Mullet Bros.”

Hornsby will play one of two good ol’ boys in the Warner Bros. TV comedy pilot. Thesp, who’s managed by Ted Schacter, recently sealed a seven-episode arc in HBO’s “Six Feet Under.” Other credits include “Minority Report” and “Presidio Med.”

Other thesps recently cast include the following:

  • John Asher (“Going to California”) has joined the cast of CBS’ comedy pilot “Rubbing Charlie” in the role of Dean. Asher, whose credits include the TV version of “Weird Science,” is repped by Gold/Lietke and Claudine Vacca.

“Rubbing Charlie,” from Big Ticket TV, stars Scott Wolf.

  • Fox has rounded out the cast of its comedy pilot “Jack’s House,” adding thesp Heath Hyche (“Kiss My Act”) as Wes, Desmond Askew (“Go”) as Harlan, Kathleen Rose Perkins (“CSI: Miami”) as Sophie and Patrick Fabian (“Sour Grapes”) as Lyle.

“Jack’s House,” from 20th Century Fox TV, revolves around a twentysomething slacker who buys a house and tries to grow up, at least until his buddies move in.
