The “Manic” preem was not just another teen movie bash.
Tyro helmer Jordan Melamed said the pic, which had none of the cheery gloss of studio releases, was shot Dogma-style to better “marry documentary and narrative.”
“We shot it down and dirty,” recalled co-star/co-scribe Michael Bacall.
Not that it was a tortured shoot, Melamed was quick to point out: “Everyone was staying together at a Motel 6, so at night there was a lot of letting loose.”
Thurston Moore, who provided some of pic’s music, performed a short set with fellow Sonic Youth cronies during the after-party at CB’s gallery. (Kim Gordon was in attendance, but did not get onstage.)
Among the guests: star Joseph Gordon-Levitt and IFC’s Jonathan Sehring.
