Responsibilities to stay the same under new deal
Turns out Leslie Moonves will get a new title as part of his new long-term deal to stay with CBS (Daily Variety, April 14.)
Moonves has been upped to chairman and CEO of CBS, the same title once held by Eye scion William Paley. Moonves had been prexy and CEO.
His responsibilities will stay the same under the new agreement, which runs a little under five years and expires at the end of 2007.
Moonves and his longtime rep, Ernie Del, weren’t available to talk about the new deal over the weekend. But in a brief interview Monday, Moonves indicated that leaving the Eye was never a serious consideration, in part because Viacom toppers Sumner Redstone and Mel Karmazin “have been very supportive of me.”
“I love being at CBS and I love the people I work with,” he said. “There’s no reason to go anywhere else.”
