Inside move: Fox, not staying ‘Idol’

Talent show expands, will help out 'Personality' launch

Bad news for programmers at rival webs: Fox is adding even more “American Idol” to its primetime sked!

Competitors already have to deal with 90 minutes of pain each week thanks to the regularly scheduled segs of “Idol” on Tuesday and Wednesday nights. In recent weeks, Fox turned the screws a little tighter by expanding “Idol” to an hour on Wednesdays a couple of times in order to help launch laffer “Wanda at Large.”

Now the net has decided to give the premiere of reality skein “Mr. Personality” some “Idol” love, too.

Fox has scheduled an hourlong “Idol” special for Monday, April 21, at 8 p.m., right before “Personality” preems. No word yet on what will be in the special, though it’s unlikely it will be a competition episode.

Not surprisingly, Fox is also bulking up on “Idol” during the May sweeps. While the Tuesday show will remain at an hour for the month, net will expand the Wednesday results show to an hour on April 30 and May 14, and to two hours for the skein’s second season finale May 21.
