New Wednesday night drama milks 'Sisco' connection
Whether they realize it or not, CBS will be doing ABC a solid on Sept. 14, when the Eye airs the network premiere of the George Clooney theatrical “Out of Sight.”
The movie also stars Jennifer Lopez — perhaps you’ve heard of her — as an FBI agent by the name of Karen Sisco — perhaps you’ve heard of her, too.
That’s a boon for ABC because the Alphabet web will launch its new key Wednesday night drama “Karen Sisco,” based on the same character, just a few weeks later.
Carla Gugino plays “Sisco” in the upcoming Universal-produced drama, to Lopez’s original recipe portrayal in the 1998 action thriller.
The character of Karen Sisco comes from the twisted mind of novelist Elmore Leonard, who would probably appreciate TV’s Sisco doppelgangers showing up in primetime within weeks of one another.
ABC execs, perhaps nervous that CBS might yank the movie after it realizes the “Sisco” connection, are chuckling privately over the inadvertent promo but otherwise declined comment.
The Eye, meanwhile, should tally each time Clooney, Lopez and company utter the words “Karen Sisco” — and send a bill to ABC.
