LONDON — Hordes of screaming fans brandishing big green hands and mean looks descended on London’s Empire Leicester Square on Thursday for the U.K. charity preem of “The Hulk.”
In attendance were helmer Ang Lee and stars Eric Bana and Jennifer Connelly (eight-months pregnant). Bana, who plays Hulk alter-ego Bruce Banner, flew in from the Maltese set of “Troy” to help introduce the pic. Bana joked that he’d looked for a flattering green suit but settled for a bland grey charcoal number when he “couldn’t find a nice one.”
One dedicated fan had no such problem. Hulk-obsessed Peter Happlewhite pushed to the front in full Hulk get-up — complete with ripped shirt and green full-body make-up — reportedly offering to pay $150 a ticket to partner up with any of the invited guests. But no one seemed eager to walk the red carpet arm in arm with a big green monster.
Happlewhite sighed that “a couple of people have been tempted, but everyone has been with a spouse, and their spouses haven’t wanted to go in with me.”
Other celebrities on hand were Connelly’s husband, thesp Paul Bettany, thesp Chiwetal Ejiofor, Coolio, Oz popstar Holly Valance and BBC uber-chef Gary Rhodes.
