Gotham hair stylist Cutler heads reality series
Fox TV Studios is developing a reality series described as a cross between “The Restaurant” and “American Idol,” set in the world of hair salons.
Production company has pacted with Gotham hair stylist Rodney Cutler on a skein that follows 40 aspiring stylists over 12 weeks as he mentors and trains them to help open a salon.
Redken is aboard to sponsor “Making the Cut.”
Fox TV Studios exec VP of alternative productions David Martin said participants will be chosen from among budding beauty school students across the country.
“Rodney is very demanding,” Martin said. “It’s a very intensive thing. It’s three years before he lets any of the students at his salon cut hair. So we’re expecting a lot of good drama to come out of the show.”
New York mag named Cutler the city’s best hairstylist for men. Gotham-based Cutler Salon has worked with Vogue, Harper’s Bazaar and Glamour as well as with designers Cynthia Rowley and Vasseur-Esquivel.
