Finnish ‘Idols’ bows

World Brief

Finland is to become the 12th territory to launch a local version of FremantleMedia’s and 19TV’s reality entertainment format “Idols.”

The 21-episode series, which kicks off on commercial channel MTV3 in September, will be produced by Helsinki-based Fremantle subsid Fremantle Entertainment.

Behind-the-scenes footage and in-terviews with contestants and their families will be shown on support show “Idols Extra,” on MTV3 spinoff youth channel Sub-tv.

The winner will land a recording contract.

The format has created national pop idols in six countries, including the Netherlands, where the final on March 8 was watched by more than a third of total viewers.
