DVD hits the Croisette

Move over TV. HD and DVD will take center stage at the 19th annual Mipcom, with special screenings, gabfests and a publication dedicated to the technologies.

A panel put together by Phil White, managing director of Shooting Partners, and Timo Koch, commercial manager of Outside Broadcast, will focus on those formats best adapted to the technology, new distrib methods and rev potential.

Meanwhile, DVD is expected to make greater inroads this year than ever before, with a 33% increase in the number of households across Europe equipped with a DVD player.

By way of contrast, the U.S., where DVD players bowed a year earlier, is expected to enjoy a 47% increase.

During DVD@Mipcom, a conference session titled “DVD: Delve Into the Revenue Potential” will put current trends under scrutiny.

Panelists will focus on the types of programs best adapted to DVD, and discuss the most effective marketing campaigns to launch a title and boost revenue potential.

A special supplement dedicated to DVD will retrace the major themes of this exploding market.
