It took Donna Murphy two hours, 20 minutes to leave the theater and get to her “Wonderful Town” opening-night party at the new Mandarin Oriental Hotel on Columbus Circle.
“I had 38 guests at the theater,” the star explained.
Exiting the party before her 11:20 p.m. arrival were twice that many people, including such legit machers as Rocco Landesman, Tommy Tune, Scott Zeiger, Nick Scandalios and Harvey Weinstein, who’s one of the show’s associate producers.
“What? Donna isn’t upstairs. Where is she?” he wondered. Weisntein said he was in for 10% of the show’s capitalization, which tops off at around $5 million.
Lauren Bacall and Kitty Carlisle Hart were hanging out curbside with scribe Jerome Chodorov when Murphy finally descended from her limo. Fully recovered from a nasty flu that forced her to miss several previews, the actress looked radiant in a strapless gown and gossamer wrap, despite chilly winds, as she accepted heartfelt congrats from the three legends.
