CTV hitches ‘Newlyweds’

Boyce negotiated skein, 'Stewart' renewal

MONTREAL — Canuck network CTV has acquired local rights to MTV reality series “Newlyweds: Nick and Jessica” and has extended its deal with Comedy Central’s satirical newser “The Daily Show With Jon Stewart.”

In August, CTV acquired MTV’s “Punk’d,” which has become a top 20 show in Canada, and last year it garnered boffo ratings with MTV reality skein “The Osbournes.”

The new deal was negotiated by Susanne Boyce, prexy of programming at CTV.

“We are delighted to further extend our sales partnership with CTV,” said Kathleen Hricik, executive veep, international program enterprises, MTV Networks Intl.

“Newlyweds,” which premiered on MTV in August, is a 10-episode half-hour series that documents the first steps of matrimony of pop stars Nick Lachey and Jessica Simpson. It will air on CTV later this fall.

CTV also has renewed “The Daily Show” for its specialty channel the Comedy Network, where it has played since 1999. It will air at 11 p.m. on the Comedy Network and at midnight on CTV beginning Nov. 3.

On CTV, it will replace latenight talker “Open Mike With Mike Bullard,” which CTV lost at the end of last season when Bullard signed with the rival Global network.
