The presence of Penelope Cruz at a pour Thursday evening at the Galleon beach attended by more than 300 people (including a few gatecrashers, despite tight security at the door) to plug her currently lensing “Head in the Clouds” fueled the buzz for the romance in which she co-stars with Stuart Townsend and Charlize Theron.
The thesp mixed freely among the throng and charmed more than a few attendees while Arclight Films’ Gary Hamilton, who is fielding worldwide rights, cozied up to buyers and was overheard assuring one that a deal memo was being prepared pronto.
Arclight has pre-sold the pic to Spain (Manga), Japan (Gaga), Germany (Tobis) and a few other Euro territories. One of the producers, Spice Factory’s Michael Cowan, says the deals inked thus far are worth a tidy $6.7 million.
U.S. rights are still up for grabs but Hamilton says, “There’s a lot of interest and we hope to have a deal by the end of this market.”
