Clark raises ‘Luann’ rights

Bronson to develop project with shingle's Raffanello, Klein

Dick Clark Prods. has acquired rights to the comicstrip “Luann.”

Shingle plans to create a live-action half hour based on Luann, the typical teenage girl stumbling through her adolescence.

“We feel ‘Luann’ is unique and could become a major television franchise,” Clark said. “It is set apart from others in its genre by its cliffhanging stories, social relevance and the keen character humor displayed not only in Luann’s persona but in that of her family and friends.”

“It’s a unique phase in life that’s troublesome and hilarious at the same time, particularly for girls,” creator Greg Evans said. “I’m delighted to be working with Dick Clark Prods. on this project. Their love of the property and enthusiasm to bring it to television is inspiring and exciting.”

Fred Bronson (“American Music Awards”) will develop the project alongside Dick Clark Prods.’ Nicole Raffanello and Larry Klein.

Created in 1985, “Luann” has spun off a series of books and appears in more than 400 newspapers.
