MIAMI — Mexican media conglom Grupo Televisa is bringing back former No. 2 Guillermo Canedo to head its sales arm Televisa Intl. after a six-year absence.
Canedo started at the Miami-based arm Monday, but his title has not yet been determined. He will report to Televisa VP for television Jose Baston, who is based in Mexico City.
The exec has been brought in above Televisa Intl. general director Eugenio Lopez Negrete, who took up his post a year ago.
“International growth is a priority for Televisa, and Guillermo will bring the force needed to continue our efforts in such an important venture,” said Baston.
Canedo was not available for comment, and a company statement did not give information on his activities since he left Grupo Televisa in July 1997.
Canedo was once exec VP for strategic planning, finance and corporate administration at Televisa. He and his brother Jose Antonio inherited shares in the holding company that controlled Televisa from their father, a senior exec and right-hand man to topper Emilio Azcarraga Milmo.
Both brothers ankled just months after Azcarraga Milmo’s death in 1997, their departures widely attributed to a bitter shareholder conflict.
