Exec to work on strategy, transactions, management issues
NEW YORK — Cablevision last week promoted Hank Ratner to the post of vice chairman.Ratner was formerly vice chair of Cablevision’s Rainbow Media programming unit, overseeing all strategic transactions. Rainbow recently sold its Bravo cable net to NBC and has been toying with a sale of sister network AMC. In his expanded role, Ratner will work on Cablevision’s overall planning and strategy, transactions and management issues. He will report to Cablevision CEO James Dolan. James and his father Charles Dolan, Cablevision’s chairman, were recently numbered by Business Week among the worst managers in corporate America. The Bethpage, N.Y., cabler has been struggling in past months with a heavy debt load, partly relieved by the Bravo sale. Clearview Cinemas is on the block as well. Wall Streeters and cable insiders don’t discount a sale of the entire company at some point, possibly to Time Warner Cable after it goes public this spring.
