ABC takes on 'Sex and the City' writer's latest book
Scribe-thesp Catherine Butterfield is “Trading Up,” coming onboard to write and co-exec produce ABC’s take on Candace Bushnell’s bestselling novel.
In addition, Industry Entertainment is in final talks to join Touchstone Television as a producer on the project, an hourlong sudser targeted for summer or fall 2004 (Daily Variety, Aug. 12). When that deal is done, Industry’s Rosalie Swedlin (“Live From Baghdad”) will come aboard as an exec producer.
“Trading Up,” the latest novel from the author of “Sex and the City,” revolves around Janey Wilcox, a lingerie model whose recent success has gone to her head. As she gets drawn into the universe of media moguls and Fifth Avenue penthouses, she must decide what she’s willing to do to make her dreams come true.
In addition to small-screen credits such as “Party of Five” and “Fame L.A.,” Gersh-repped Butterfield has several feature projects in the works, including “Under My Skin,” from producers Dan Jinks and Bruce Cohen (“American Beauty”) and “Amanda’s Wedding” for Warner Bros.
