“21 Grams” scribe Guillermo Arriaga touched on weighty themes of heaven, hell and hope during Wednesday’s Q&A following pic’s unspooling in the Variety Screening series.
Scribe said his son inspired the script, which follows three characters finding hope amid misery. Arriaga said his son responded to a relative’s drowning with the query, “If I die, will you ever smile again? Can you ever play again?”
Scribe explained: “I want to tell my daughter and my son even though death has a very strong power, life has much, much more.”
Film historian Pete Hammond moderated the ArcLight sesh.
