Originals' fate not yet determined

MIAMI — During a conference call with analysts last week to discuss the first quarter, Univision TV prexy Ray Rodriguez promised some exciting new shows were in the offing, among them the L.A.-set novela “Te Amare en Silencio” — produced by a company owned by Univision chairman-CEO Jerry Perenchio.

Funny thing is, that was the big news last year.

Indeed, it seems every year at upfront, Univision trots out a couple of original programs — as opposed to Mexican or Venezuelan productions from its suppliers Televisa and Venevision that have already aired in their respective markets — but they never seem to make it onto the sked.

The rumor mill has it that the Perenchio soap is destined to suffer the same fate. With a title that translates as “I Will Love You in Silence,” the joke is, “And I’ll Never See You on Television.”
