Performers dub dialog for MTV's kung-fu pic

MTV has set an arsenal of pop stars as the voice talent for its original movie “Volcano High.”

Among the performers on board are Outkast’s Andre 3000, Snoop Dogg, Mya, Lil’ Jon, Tracy Morgan, Big Boi, Pat Morita, Kelis and Method Man.

Pic, a Korean-language kung-fu film about a high schooler with unique powers, was acquired by the net earlier this year with plans to hire American thesps to dub the dialogue and redo the soundtrack (Daily Variety, Aug. 12).

“Volcano High” toured the international film fest circuit, where MTV’s senior VP of original movies, Maggie Malina, first saw it. “Volcano High” premieres Dec. 21.

“Once again MTV Original Movies is redefining the TV movie,” said Lois Curren, exec VP of series and movie development. “We are so excited to present this groundbreaking project and explore the synergy between hip-hop and kung fu movies — two art forms our audience loves.”

Kim Tae-gyun directed the original “Volcano High.” Rob Edwards exec produces.

Pic is a co-production between MTV and Distant Horizon Inc.
