Emerson to succeed Van de Kamp
John Emerson, president of personal investment management for Capital Guardian Trust, has been named chairman and chief executive officer of the Music Center of Los Angeles County. He succeeds Andrea Van de Kamp, who has been named chairman emeritus of the Music Center.Emerson had been approved as board chairman-elect in November at the time Stephen Rountree was appointed president of the Music Center. He had been a member of the executive committee and chair of the development committee at the Music Center. Prior to joining Capital Guardian, Emerson served as deputy assistant to President Clinton from 1993 to 1997. Before that , he was chief deputy city attorney for Los Angeles under James Hahn. Van de Kamp orchestrated the merger of the two companies that formerly comprised the Music Center and the completion of Walt Disney Concert Hall. She will continue in her leadership role on behalf of Walt Disney Concert Hall. “Through her unwavering dedication she ushered the Music Center into the 21st century as a thriving arts complex, and in so doing, she raised the cultural profile of Los Angeles on the national and world stages,” Emerson said of Van de Kamp at the June 23 board of directors meeting.
