COLOGNE — Popkomm, one of the music industry’s largest international trade fairs, will relocate from Cologne to Berlin next year.Move was driven by Dieter Gorny, head of Cologne-based music TV broadcaster Viva Media, who established the confab in 1989. Gorny sold his 70% stake in the fair’s organizing company, Musik Komm, to Viva Media last week. Mush of the German music industry has relocated to Berlin in recent years. Sony Music, formerly in Cologne, and Universal Music, formerly in Hamburg, have moved to the capital. MTV Germany will leave Munich for Berlin at the end of this year.Viva moved into new headquarters in Cologne last year and does not intend to relocate. Cologne’s last Popkomm will take place Aug. 14-18.
