Lavigne tops Juno Awards

Skater girl takes album, pop album, single, new artist

TORONTO — Grammy may have shut her out this year, but Avril Lavigne is well loved at home in the Great White North, where the girl from Napanee took four Juno Awards over the weekend.

“Let Go” won album and pop album, “Complicated” took single, and Lavigne was tapped new artist.

Shania Twain, who hosted the award ceremony held in Ottawa on Sunday evening, won the artist award and the Juno fan choice kudo as well as statuette for country recording for “I’m Gonna Getcha Good!”

Sum 41 took the nod for group; rock album was “Gravity” from Our Lady Peace; Remy Shand took R&B/soul recording for “The Way I Feel”; and rap recording kudos went to Swollen Members for “Monsters in the Closet.”

Diana Krall’s “Live in Paris” won vocal jazz album and Alanis Morissette took the producer award for “Hands Clean” and “So Unsexy.”

Eminem’s “The Eminem Show” was international album, and new group of the year was Theory of a Deadman.
