Montreal playing for laughs

Cosby, Fey, Reiner set for comedy fest

MONTREAL — Bill Cosby, Kelly Ripa, Brad Garrett, Tina Fey, the Blue Man Group, Carl Reiner and Canuck comedian Rick Mercer are set for the Montreal Just for Laughs comedy fest, unspooling July 10-20.

Cosby will headline two shows July 19 at Place des Arts, organizers said Tuesday. Garrett, Mercer, Ripa, Fey and Reiner will host galas, the fest’s prestige shows.

Colin Mochrie, Greg Proops, Brad Sherwood, Jeff Davis and Sean Masterson from “Whose Line Is It Anyway?” will appear as the Improv All Stars July 15-20 at the Monument National.

There are four new club shows this year, Talk of the Fest; “Basile: Growing Up Greek in North America”; Dating It (a mix of standup comedy and speed dating); and Confessing It, where comics reveal their deepest, darkest secrets.

Most of the regular club series are back, notably the popular Nasty Show, with host Bobby Slayton; Queer Comics; Bubbling With Laughter, with hosts Adam Ferrara and Brent Butt; and Laugh-Rodisiacs: The Relationships Show, hosted by Andrew Grose.

Brit playwright Arthur Smith will present his show “Arthur Smith Sings Leonard Cohen,” a tribute to the Montreal singer-songwriter, and the Londoner’s Late Night Tour of Montreal.
