Church stake may not translate with programming
BUDAPEST — Slovenia’s Koper Roman Catholic diocese has sold 75% of its TV3 to a Croatian media consortium, transforming the religious network into a mainstream commercial TV network.TV3 is now part of a broadcast group that includes Croatia’s Nova TV and Bosnia’s OBN network. The Koper diocese retains a 25% stake in the network, but it is unlikely that the church’s minority control will enable it to preserve the network’s past profile for family and evangelical programming. Mirko Krasevec, TV3 supervisory board chairman, says the decision to sell came after crushing financial losses convinced execs and the board that TV3 could only survive if it went commercial.
