“Nothing but the Truth,” a play about post-apartheid South Africa by playwright-actor John Kani, will kick off the fall season at the Mitzi E. Newhouse Theater. Opening night will be Dec. 8.
The American premiere follows last year’s successful run, directed by Kani, at the Market Theater in Johannesburg, South Africa. Kani won a Tony in 1975 for his perfs in Broadway’s “The Island” and “Sizwe Banzi Is Dead.”
Play will be presented by Lincoln Center Theater under the auspices of artistic director Andre Bishop and executive producer Bernard Gersten. Janice Honeyman will direct.
Starring are South African thesps Kani, Emeralda Bihl and Warona Seane.
“Nothing but the Truth” explores the tensions between black South Africans who remained in their homeland during the fight against apartheid and those who returned to the country after seeking exile.
