“The Thing About Men” replaces “Tea at Five” at the Promenade theater this summer.
Starring Kate Mulgrew as Kate Hepburn, “Tea” puts in its last perf at the Upper West Side venue on July 13.
“We’re looking for another theater to move to,” said Daryl Roth, the show’s lead producer. The departure of “Tea” from the Promenade is not a case of the stop-clause being invoked.
“We’ve made money each week,” said Roth. “Our contract at the Promenade was only through July 13.” Mulgrew, who originally signed on through mid-July, recently reupped to end of 2003.
“The Thing About Men” is Joe DiPietro and Jimmy Roberts’ follow-up to their “I Love You, You’re Perfect, Now Change,” Off Broadway’s longest-running tuner and now in its seventh year.
“Thing” is based on Doris Dorrie’s 1985 German-language film “Men,” about a man who becomes the roommate of his wife’s lover.
The DiPietro/Roberts tuner begins previews in early August. Mark Clements directs.
