The League of American Theaters and Producers and the American Theater Wing have extended their partnership to produce the Tony Awards through 2008.
“The spirit of friendship which prevailed in our discussion is important. But most significant is that the future of the Tony Awards is guaranteed,” said Wing chairman Isabelle Stevenson.
The previous contract for Tony Award Prods. (TAP), a joint venture of the Wing and the League, was skedded to expire in 2004.
TAP is in talks with CBS to extend its agreement to air the kudocast beyond its current contract, which runs through 2004.
Relationship between the Wing and the League has not always been cozy.
Broadway trade org the League has at times sought more control over the marketing and production of the Tonys, but the Wing owns the rights to the Tony name and must approve all uses of the brand.
