Willis’ sixth sense says: Forget ‘Me’

Actor costs too much for producer-distribber

Bruce Willis has decided to forget the amnesia thriller “Me Again,” just two months before the Intermedia production was set to shoot.

A statement from Intermedia Wednesday described the “mutually amicable” parting as stemming from “creative differences” — but the biggest difference was over the actor’s payday.

Willis apparently did not want to renegotiate the deal he originally made — one that called for $25 million for his acting services and nearly $5 million more for the producing efforts of his partner in Cheyenne Enterprises, Arnold Rifkin, and his brother, producer David Willis.

Bruce Willis has been attached to the Intermedia-BBC Films project for more than a year, but Intermedia has spent months working to stanch the financial bleeding that threatened the company’s future.

The producer-distribber has laid off employees and slashed producing deals. It continues to face a difficult international marketplace — one that remains soft even for global superstars like Willis.

“Me Again” now is out to a short list of actors and Intermedia plans to begin production on time for a mid-June start. Diane Lane remains set as the pic’s femme lead.

Neither Rifkin nor David Willis will be involved in the production or listed as producers. Beryl Vertue and her Hartswood Films banner will continue to produce the film for Intermedia.

Written by Steven Moffat, “Me Again” will be directed by Dean Parisot (“GalaxyQuest”). It’s the story of a man who wakes up in a hotel room with no memory and a dead body. The man and a FBI agent (Lane) must figure out if he’s a hit man or the undercover cop assigned to take down the assassin.
