Ronna Wallace has announced the formal launch of Eastgate Pictures, a New York-based film representation company through which the veteran independent film exec will serve as producer’s rep on finished features and provide consulting services to filmmakers and film financiers.
Wallace will continue to serve as a consultant for Capitol Films, advising on projects to be financed and distributed by the London-based international production and sales banner, as well as being involved in negotiations for the sale of finished films to the U.S.
“Completed film representation will be the core and focus of Eastgate,” Wallace said. “Having been a buyer for so many years, it feels like a natural. I think I’ve learned not only what distributors are looking for, but also how to market completed films to distributors efficiently and effectively.
“Plus, this is the perfect complement to my relationship with Capitol Films.”
Wallace currently is repping Ramin Niami’s contemporary noir “Paris,” which world-premieres Wednesday in competition at the Tribeca Film Festival.
Also on her current slate are George Sluizer’s Spanish/Portuguese-language drama “The Stoneraft” and Allan Mindel’s “Milwaukee, Minnesota,” which premiered closing night at Slamdance in January and will screen this month in the Intl. Critics Week at Cannes.
Wallace was formerly head of production and acquisitions for Stratosphere and was responsible for negotiations leading to the formation of IDP.
Before that, she spent two years as senior VP of acquisitions of Samuel Goldwyn Films, bringing such titles as Ken Loach’s “Ladybird, Ladybird” and Stanley Tucci and Campbell Scott’s “Big Night” into the company and overseeing production on Michael Corrente’s “American Buffalo,” with Dustin Hoffman.
Before joining Goldwyn, Wallace was senior VP, production and acquisitions, at Live Entertainment. She was exec producer on Tim Robbins’ “Bob Roberts,” Quentin Tarantino’s “Reservoir Dogs,” Abel Ferrara’s “Bad Lieutenant” and Paul Schrader’s “Light Sleeper.”
Under Wallace’s direction, Live acquired ancillary rights to such titles as “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Movie,” “The Fabulous Baker Boys,” “Weekend at Bernie’s,” “Madonna: Truth or Dare,” “Glengarry Glen Ross,” “The Crying Game” and “The Piano.”
In conjunction with Live Entertainment, Wallace was awarded the Independent Feature Project’s 1993 Friends of Independents Award.
