World Brief

Anant Singh’s Videovision Entertainment has acquired worldwide distribution rights to Africa’s first full-length animated feature, “The Legend of the Sky Kingdom.”

Produced by Zimbabwean filmmakers Philip and Jacqui Cunningham and directed by Roger Hawkin for Sunrise Prods., the film had its world premiere opening the African Horizons section of the Montreal Film Festival in September and its African preem at the Durban Intl. Film Festival on Monday.

“Legend” tells the story of three children who escape slavery to search for the fabled Sky Kingdom.

The film’s creators call their animation style “junkmation,” saying it was inspired by skilled craftsmen who transform junk into useful items.
