SYDNEY — United Intl. Pictures has hired vet exhib Kurt Rieder to take charge of its sales and marketing ops in Asia, excluding Japan.
Based in Singapore, he will oversee the release of Paramount, Universal and DreamWorks films in the region, starting Sept. 8. He replaces Roger Pollock, who moved to UIP in London to become senior VP of sales for Europe, the Middle East and Africa (Daily Variety, April 2).
Rieder, who joins UIP as vice prexy of Asia, is departing Singapore’s Golden Village, where he was managing director of the eight-location circuit and distrib business, which handles Village Roadshow product in the territory.
An 11-year industry vet, Rieder served with Thailand exhib Entertain Golden Village, Village Cinemas Intl. in Argentina and Warner Bros. Singapore.
