Casey Affleck has joined the cast of “The World of Tomorrow,” the independently financed sci-fi thriller that stars Jude Law, Gwyneth Paltrow and Angelina Jolie.
The f/x-heavy pic described as a retro sci-fi actioner similar to “Raiders of the Lost Ark.” It revolves around a reporter (Paltrow) and pilot (Law) who go on an adventure just before the start of WWII.
Affleck will play Dex, a tech genius and right hand man to Law’s aviator hero. Giovanni Ribisi had been in negotiations for the role.
Kerry Conran makes his directorial debut on “Tomorrow,” which he also wrote. Production begins this month in London.
Jon Avnet is producing with Marsha Oglesby, Law and his wife Sadie Frost. Italian-based producer Aurelio De Laurentiis is exec producing with Raffaella De Laurentiis and Bill Haber.
Affleck, who is repped by CAA, last appeared opposite Matt Damon in “Gerry,” the indie helmed by Gus Van Sant and distribbed by ThinkFilm. He also recently appeared in Warner Bros.’ “Ocean’s Eleven.”
