Strand sez ‘Bonjour’ to U.S.

Israeli comedy-romance helmed by Zharin

Strand Releasing has acquired U.S. rights to Israeli writer-director Shemi Zarhin’s “Bonjour Monsieur Shlomi,” the distrib’s second collaboration with producer Eitan Evan after “Under the Domin Tree.”

The comedy-romance centers on a boy, blessed with extraordinary mental ability, who becomes the peacekeeper within his chaotic family and discovers his independence and potential through the power of love.

“Mr. Zharin has directed a very heartwarming and intelligent film that I believe will resonate with an audience,” Strand co-prexy Jon Gerrans said.

Gerrans closed the deal with Ida Marins and Andrew Chang of sales agent Media Luna Entertainment during the Toronto Film Festival.

Strand currently has “Party Monster,” “So Close” and another Israeli film, “Yossi & Jagger,” in theaters. “Bonjour” is expected to world preem at one of the early 2004 festivals; Strand is planning a midyear release.
