HOLLYWOOD — Peter Steinfeld has been tapped to adapt the Ben Mezrich book “Bringing Down the House: The Inside Story of Six MIT Students Who Took Vegas for Millions” for Kevin Spacey’s Trigger Street Prods and MGM.
Story revolves around a blackjack club formed by MIT students and a former math professor who traveled to Vegas in 1993 to count cards and beat the system, netting themselves millions.
Spacey to topline
Spacey will play the math professor in the pic. He will produce through his Trigger Street shingle, which also has the biopic of crooner Bobby Darin set up at the Lion, with Spacey toplining.
MGM execs Elizabeth Cantillon and Stephanie Palmer are overseeing the project at the studio.
Steinfeld, who is repped by CAA, most recently scripted “Be Cool” for MGM. Lion is putting the sequel to “Get Shorty” on the fast track.
Scribe’s credits also include Warner Bros.’ “Analyze That” and Jersey Films’ laffer “Drowning Mona.”
Given the success of Disney’s Steven Martin and Queen Latifah laffer “Bringing Down the House,” the name of the Lion’s pic will necessarily change.
