‘Splendor’ closing Comedia

World Brief

This year’s Comedia, the Montreal Just for Laughs Festival’s comedy-film event, will showcase 25 pics, including the Canadian premiere of “American Splendor.”

The film, which won the Grand Jury Prize at this year’s Sundance Film Festival, is based on the life of comic-book author Harvey Pekar, and it stars Pekar, Paul Giamatti and Hope Davis.

“American Splendor” closes Comedia, which runs July 10 to 20.

The opening-night selection is “Mon idole” (Anything You Say), from Gallic actor/writer/helmer Guillaume Canet. Canet will be on hand for the North American premiere of the pic.

There will also be an evening with writer-director-actor Carl Reiner.
