Spain’s Bardem has ‘Collateral’ role

Thesp moves to Mann pic after wrapping 'Sea'

MADRID — Oscar-nominated thesp Javier Bardem (“When Night Falls”) has been cast in the Tom Cruise starrer “Collateral,” which Michael Mann is directing for DreamWorks.

Pic also features Jamie Foxx.

Bardem will travel to Los Angeles to shoot what is described by Spanish newspaper El Pais as “a small role.”

One of Spain’s biggest marquee names, Bardem is known to be choosy about taking roles. He finished shooting Alejandro Amenabar’s Spanish-lingo “Out to Sea” last week.

Pic re-creates the life of Spanish paraplegic Ramon Sampedro, who battled for years to be allowed to kill himself legally.

Bardem plays Sampedro in what is already being talked up as one of the major Spanish films of next year.
