Sexual play goes on without intereference

World brief

A play featuring a live oral sex scene, a first for Canuck theater, was staged in Vancouver over the weekend without police interference.

The police, who had threatened to prevent “Public Sex, Art and Democracy” from going ahead, said they will investigate and forward a report to the Crown, which could recommend charges under the Criminal Code of Canada.

Any legal action will be watched closely by the media. Many believe the performance could prompt a deluge of sex acts in theater, television and other live entertainment venues if no charges are laid (Daily Variety, June 23).

The play, co-written by civil rights lawyer John Ince and artist Martin Guderna, was skedded for three performances.
