Exec credited with bringing 'Troopers,' 'Sugar' to co.

Fox Searchlight Pictures has promoted Joshua Deighton to VP of production, reporting to exec VP Claudia Lewis.

Lewis praised Deighton’s “fresh and innovative approach” to developing films.

Deighton is credited with bringing $18 million grosser “Super Troopers,” starring sketch comedy group Broken Lizard, to the company, and also brought in urban comedy “Brown Sugar,” which grossed $27 million.

Since joining Searchlight in 1998, Deighton has also worked on “Kingdom Come,” “The Banger Sisters” and “One Hour Photo.” He is busy on Broken Lizard follow-up “Club Dread,” slated for release in February.

Deighton started at Searchlight in 1998 as a development assistant and has since held posts as creative executive and director of production.

Prior to Searchlight, he worked as a development assistant for New Regency Prods. and for producer-director Tony Bill at Barnstorm Films.
