Revolution bets on ‘Sumo’

'Deuce' writer to pen tale

Revolution Studios has acquired comedy pitch “Sumo” from “Master of Disguise” scribe Harris Goldberg for Mark Sternberg to produce.

Pic’s plot revolves around an unlikely member of a Japanese sumo wrestling team.

Goldberg wrote Revolution’s comedy “Master of Disguise,” the laffer starring Dana Carvey that cost $16 million and generated $40 million at the domestic B.O. last summer. His other credits include Disney’s “Deuce Bigalow: Male Gigolo” and “D3: The Mighty Ducks.”

Sternberg currently is producing “The Girl Next Door” with Chuck Gordon for New Regency.

Andrew Hong will associate produce “Sumo,” while Revolution execs Todd Garner and Derek Dauchy will oversee the pic at the studio.

Goldberg is repped by Bruce Kaufman and Todd Hoffman of the Broder Webb Chervin Silberman Agency and attorney Eric Wiesman.
