Regal rolls out hometown pic

Nashville fest topper gets local run

In an effort to bring the work of a filmmaker to his native state, Regal Cinemas has picked up “Stuey,” the debut effort of helmer and Nashville native A.W. Vidmer, for a one-week run at its Nashville Green Hills 16 theaters. Vidmer said this unspooling will help the pic “find its audience.” He hopes the tracking of over 1 million surfers on the film’s Web site ( will translate into ticket sales.

“Stuey,” which stars “Sopranos” thesp Michael Imperioli in the title role, is the true story of gambler and world poker champ Stuey Unger, whose addiction to poker ultimately destroyed him. Pat Morita and Michael Nouri share the bill.

Pic nabbed the audience award at the Nashville Film Festival and helmer kudos for Vidmer at the San Diego fest.

“Stuey” next enters competish at the Malibu Film Festival — with screenings last Friday and tomorrow — and unspools at the DGA Oct. 3.
