BERLIN — Veteran German producer Artur Brauner said Monday he had received anonymous death threats over his new WWII pic “Babij Jar,” which unspools at next month’s Berlin Intl. Film Festival.
Pic, by U.S. helmer Jeff Kanew, depicts the massacre of Ukrainian Jews by German troops during the 1941 invasion of the Soviet Union.
Brauner, 84, has received two calls since the film screened at the Museum of Tolerance in L.A. last year, telling him he would not live to see the Feb. 11 premiere in Berlin.
“The telephone terror is horrific, but I have no fear,” Brauner said. “The film is coming to cinemas, whatever may happen.” Pic goes into wide release in Germany May 8.
