Orgs step in to save Kiwi pic kudos

World Brief

The New Zealand Film Awards have won a reprieve and will now be staged as planned Dec. 8 in Auckland.

The awards were to be presented by the Kiwi Academy of Film and Television Arts, which was forced to pull the plug for financial reasons.

On Tuesday it was confirmed the awards would be funded by an industry group including the NZ Film Commission and NZ Trade and Enterprises. Seven features, six digital pics and 19 short films will compete. Finalists will be announced later this month.
