Film is second for Spanish helmer De la Iglesia

MADRID — “Los Novios bulgaros,” by Spanish director Eloy de la Iglesia, has been selected for the arthouse Panorama section at this year’s Berlin. Intl. Film Festival.

Pic is the second film in 17 years from one of Spain’s most radical filmmakers, whose contempo social mellers were championed by the left in the 1970s and 1980s. “Los novios” turns on the destructive relationship between a 40-year-old gay lawyer in Madrid and his 23-year-old Bulgarian boyfriend.

Pic is based on the novel of the same title by Eduardo Mendicutti and toplines Fernando Guillen Cuervo, Ditran Biba and Pepon Nieto.

“Los Novios” is produced by Altube Filmeak, Cuervo Films, Cartel and Conexion Sur. World rights are being handled by Spanish sales company the Pi Group.
