‘Night’ right for Dreams

Bellocchio's pic doing well at the Italo B.O.

ROME — French sales company Celluloid Dreams has acquired all international rights outside Italy to “Good Morning, Night,” Italian director Marco Bellocchio’s drama about the 1978 terrorist abduction and murder of Prime Minister Aldo Moro.

“Good Morning, Night” recounts Moro’s abduction by Red Brigades members. The Christian Democratic political leader was held hostage in a Rome apartment while tension mounted and the country’s political establishment refused to negotiate.

Produced by RAI Cinema, Bellocchio’s intimately focused film has been performing well at the Italian box office, having grossed more than e3 million ($3.5 million) since its Sept. 5 release via RAI Cinema’s 01 distribution arm.

“Good Morning, Night” will unspool this week (Tuesday for press) at the New York Film Festival. It screened last month in Venice and Toronto.

Celluloid Dreams, which acquired Bellocchio’s drama directly from RAI Cinema, recently closed important U.S. deals in Toronto, selling Takeshi Kitano’s “Zatoichi” to Miramax and Ferzan Ozpetek’s “Facing Window” to Sony Pictures Classics.
