Montreal fest pays last year’s winners

Benefactor helps org before this year's competition starts

The Montreal World Film Festival has finally handed over two C$25,000 ($18,000) cash prizes to last year’s winners, directors Raul Ruiz from Chile and Raja Amari from Tunisia.

“As arranged with a private benefactor of the festival, the payment of these awards was to have been effected before the opening of the following year’s festival, in this case Aug. 27,” said festival president Serge Losique.

He declined to reveal the identity of the private benefactor.

There are plans to add more cash prizes this year if the festival finds sponsors to back them.
