Montreal fest cooks with ‘Gaz’

World Brief

Montreal helmer Louis Belanger’s second feature, “Gaz Bar Blues,” will open this year’s Montreal World Film Festival.

Belanger’s debut pic, “Post Mortem,” bowed in 1999 at the fest, where it won helmer honors for Belanger.

“Gaz Bar Blues” stars Serge Theriault as Le Boss, the owner of a small gas station that’s as much a community center as a business.

“Gaz Bar Blues” will be released in Quebec on Sept. 5 by Film Tonic and Alliance Atlantis Vivafilm.

The Montreal World Film Festival runs Aug. 27-Sept. 7.
