Millennium Films has acquired “Aftermath,” a script by J.D. Zeik (“Ronin”) that will be directed by Alexander Witt, a second unit director who’s stepping up to the big leagues.
“Aftermath” is a futuristic piece about a soldier who returns from a war, only to find another battle waiting for him as he tries to settle back into a peaceful life. “It has the feel of Clint Eastwood’s ‘man with no name’ character, dropped into a dark futuristic world,” Millennium’s Brad Jenkel said. “Alexander is so ready to direct. The amount of quality work he’s done on second unit and in commercials makes it awkward to even consider him a first timer.”
Avi Lerner’s Millennium is hardly hiring a neophyte: Witt has been the second unit director on “Black Hawk Down,” “Gladiator,” “The Bourne Identity,” “Daredevil,” and the upcoming “The Italian Job.”Jenkel will produce “Aftermath” and Paul Kelmenson will exec produce. Shooting begins late summer in Europe. Millennium’s in post on the Jim Caviezel starrer “Highwaymen” for New Line, and just wrapped the Michael Haussman-directed “Blind Horizon,” starring Val Kilmer, Sam Shepard and Neve Campbell.
