After Joe Berlinger and Bruce Sinofsky’s docu “Metallica: Some Kind of Monster” premieres at the Sundance Film Festival, the hard rock kings will launch their second tour in support of latest album “St. Anger.” Film will be released to piggyback the concert route.
The tour of arenas starts March 2 in Phoenix and includes a stop March 5 at the Forum in Inglewood. First 17 dates, all in the West, go on sale Friday; April and May dates will be announced later. Godsmack is skedded to open.
Metallica toured with Limp Bizkit, Linkin Park, Deftones and Mudvayne on the 2003 Summer Sanitarium tour following release of Elektra disc “St. Anger.” It has sold about 1.5 million copies in the U.S., 5 million worldwide.
Besides Metallica, Neil Young will be touring the U.S. while his film “Greendale” plays the same cities (Daily Variety, Dec. 11).
Metallica is in Europe, and after a New Year’s Eve show in Las Vegas, will tour Australia in January.
