Italy, India going to ‘Sicily’

Co-production greenlit by Luce

As a result of an Italo-Indo co-production treaty, Mumbai producer-director Aditya Bhattacharya will helm a Hindi-Italian-lingo pic that has been greenlit by Instituto Luce, “Sandokan in Sicily,” starring Kabir Bedi.

Bhattacharya previously had directed an Italo-Hindi-lingo pic “Senso Unico” (One Way).

“They needed a project and we had a project ready to go,” Bhattacharya says. The Italians were looking for co-prods after signing the production-distribution treaty with India (Cannes Show Dailies, May 15). Among Italo filmmakers involved are Aurelio De Laurentiis, Francesca Archibugi and Gherardo Paglei who will be lensing pics in Italy and India in both languages.

Bhattacharya follows his filmmaker family (Basu Bhattacharya, Bimal Roy) in making non-Bollywood, Hindi-language movies.
