WDAF's Edwards won't stand for missed opportunity
Quick, somebody — get Shawn Edwards a bigger seat! The critic for WDAF in Kansas City is quoted in March 30 movie ads in the Los Angeles Times and the New York Times. He liked “Dreamcatcher” and “The Core,” saying they are, respectively, “a first-rate edge-of-your-seat thriller” and an “edge-of-your-seat thrill ride.” Last year, in ads for “XXX,” Edwards fretted, “You’ll need a safety harness to stay in your seat.” Reached for comment, Edwards says he’s sitting quite well, thank you very much. “Probably more than anything it’s a coincidence,” he says. “The writing style for my segments tries to appeal to a broad audience.” In March 30 newspapers, Edwards also is quoted in ads for “DysFunktional Family” (“Hilarious! Totally off the hook!”) while ” ‘A Man Apart’ examines the human element behind the badge” — but apparently neither film put him on the edge of his seat.
